Ruger Single Action Revolvers

The following conventionally produced barrel styles are available to fit Ruger SA's.  11 degree forcing cone and .002-.003" barrel/cylinder gap are standard.  Factory style, rounded Colt style and counterbored crown available.  Most calibers are available in stainless steel.  Only premium grade stock is used.  Specify length and crown style wanted.  Barrels over 8" are $10 per inch extra.  Cylinder endshake may have to be tightened if excessive before rebarreling.

1. Standard factory contour or straight taper bull barrel. Factory sight remounted.$275
 With pinned blade sight add $50
 With setscrew FA type sight add $75
With custom fixed blade front sight add $35
No front sight mounted subtract $25

2. 5 1/2" Express style with integral barrel band and caterpillar ramped front sights. Available for Single Six and Blackhawks. $450
6 1/2" Express for full case ejection. Target length ejector hsg. included $500

Pinned blade front sight base is standard. Add $25 for FA type front sight base with setscrew.

3. Straight or tapered contour octagon with integral front sight base and pinned blade. 8" max length. $550. All octagon barrels over 4 3/4" will be machined with a shoulder to block movement of ejector housing. Not available for Single Six, Anniversary models, or New Vaquero.

                                                 EDM Produced Barrels

I am producing the following 3 barrel profiles by EDM machining to a maximum of 5 1/2" length.  Both have a tapered profile, integral front sight base with pinned blade, and can be had to fit a NM or OM guns. Available in all calibers in blue or stainless.

1. Ovate with flat rib - $500
2. Round with full length rib- similar to S&W N-frame standard barrels - $500
3. Round with full length narrow rib to fit Vaquero - $500  
Barrels 2 & 3 are typically serrated on top with straight line serrations. I can do the wavy line serrations for a unique look for $75 extra.

Prices shown are in addition to conversion price when these barrels are substituted for the standard barrel.  For rebarreling projects only add $275 to above barrel cost. A steel ejector housing may need to be fitted.

Add $100 for dovetailed front sight.

                                          Conversions

Basic tune-up package for all Ruger SA's:  Action job with 3-3 1/4# trigger, oversize #5 base pin with lock screw, recut forcing cone, open cyl. throats, correct timing as needed, install Bowen Target or Rough Country rear sight and pinned blade conversion on front sight with ramped or partridge style blade. Stainless guns will utilize factory front sight base with new custom blade installed. - $450 SS or blue.

 To shorten barrel add $75
Set barrel/cyl. gap and endshake to minimum add $100


.22 Single Six: New unfluted 6 shot cylinder is made and fitted to frame. Cylinders feature match grade chambers with proper throat size and linebored for accuracy.  Oversize base pin, action job and new barrel standard. Factory front sight remounted.  Blue or SS $995

Add $325 for extra cylinder in .22 Magnum


 

6 Shot Accurized Conversions for OM and NM Blackhawk and Vaquero Rugers: All are fitted with new, custom barrel with straight or factory taper.  Cylinder is linebored and rechambered.  Endshake and barrel/cylinder gap are set to minimum.  Oversize cylinder bolt installed.  Timing corrected and cyl. bearing surfaces inside frame faced as needed. Oversize base pin and action job standard. Custom front sight with pinned blade standard.  Specify partridge or ramped blade. Vaqueros are fitted with a dovetailed, windage adjustable front sight. Cyl. will lockup tight and in line with barrel for maximum accuracy.  Ratchet bushing installed in cyl. Specify barrel length to 8" and profile wanted.  $995 Barrel lengths under 4 5/8" $25 extra.


 

Standard 6 shot conversions for OM, NM  and Vaquero Rugers: All are fitted with new, custom barrels with straight or tapered contour. 11 degree forcing cone and custom .110" wide fixed blade partridge style front sight standard. Vaqueros will have a factory type front sight mounted.  Cylinders are linebored, rechambered, and throats cut to proper size for cast bullets.  Endshake is set to minimum.  Specify barrel length to 8" and profile wanted.  $695.  for barrel lengths under 4 5/8" add $25  Stainless adjustable sight guns done to these specs will require the use of a pinned blade front sight. There will be an additional charge of $25 for this.

Jeff Quinn Special: This conversion was made famous by Jeff Quinn of Gunblast.com. It has proven to be my most popular conversion. I have updated it a few times and the latest version is the best yet. NM & OM Ruger .357 conversion to any cal. suited for .357 size frames listed above.  Conversion utilizes factory barrel rebored and cut at 4 5/8" - 6 1/2", forcing cone cut to 11 degrees, and muzzle recrowned.  Cyl. is linebored and rechambered.  Custom made .110" wide partridge style fixed blade sight of proper height standard.  Frame and hammer color casehardened.  Balance of gun is blued.  $775 All blue version $525  This conversion is intended for blue guns only.

Please note that endshake removal and barrel/cyl. gap reduction is not included in the JQ Special conversion. If one or both of these need attention, an extra charge will be incurred.

When the above conversions are done on guns with alloy frames, refinishing the frame will be necessary. This is done with a moly resin semi gloss black finish that is baked on and very tough. A $35 extra charge will be added to conversion cost for this service. If you would rather have the frame beadblasted and left in the white, no extra charge will be incurred. Please note this when ordering. I do not offer polished out alloy frames. I will not refinish any of the newer alloy frames marked XRN. These are of poor quality under the powder coat factory finish and usually turn out looking bad when repainted. I suggest a steel gripframe to replace them.

Any 6 shot conversion above using a new barrel will have the ejector hsg. attached with a special heat treated screw. Any other method of attachment will be optional.

I see quite a few guns that have been shot extensively causing the cyl. ratchet to beat in the bearing surface inside the frame. This is one cause of cylinder endshake developing.  Repair usually entails recutting the bearing surface and resetting endshake, barrel/cyl. gap, and headspace. To stop this from happening, I have developed a hardened steel bushing that is pressed in a hole cut in the ratchet end of cyl. This affords 360 degree contact of the cyl. to bearing surface, virtually eliminating the problem from developing. I can add this on request to the JQ and standard 6 shot conversion for $50 extra. It is standard on the Accurized conversion. It is not required on 5 shot conversions.



5-shot conversions:  All feature an oversize unfluted custom cylinder with recessed case heads fitted to frame with minimum endshake and headspace.  Cylinder bearing surfaces inside frame are faced true, oversize base pin with lock screw, steel ejector housing, HD pinned blade front sight, freewheeled cylinder, and .795" dia. bull barrel in your choice of length to 8" standard.  Action is tightened and blocked.  Factory grips recontoured, sanded to frame and refinished. Action job with creep set to minimum @ 3-3.5#.  All ejector housings on standard barrel conversions will have our exclusive wedged key retaining system installed. These guns are detailed throughout for the best possible fit and finish. No extra charge for high polish blue. Load data furnished.  $1895 on your Ruger Bisley

.500 S&W Special: The cartridge is made by shortening the .500 S&W case to .44 mag. length. Bullets up to 400 gr. will work in the cartridge without inside reaming of brass. It's a fun to shoot cartridge suited to the lighter weight .500 dia. bullets. Velocities run in the 700-1000 fps range. I will offer this as a plain barrel with fixed blade sight and 5 shot cyl. conversion for $1250 in blue or stainless on any large frame Ruger SA or it can be done to the 5 shot specs above for $1895. Hornady .500 S&W dies can be altered to load this cartridge. I will do this at no charge with a conversion. I do have some load data.

5 shot 45 Colt conversion utilizing factory barrel:  Oversize cylinder and base pin with lock screw are fitted to frame. Factory barrel is refitted and forcing cone cut to 11 degrees.  Action is tightened and blocked with trigger creep set to minimum.  $995

Shorten factory barrel and remount sight add $75

6 shot conversion with custom cylinder utilizing factory barrel to above specs: $950

Complete refinishing of your gun is included in SA conversion prices except for alloy parts finishing.  Specify one of the following options when ordering:

Blue guns:

  • Matte blue

  • Polished blue (similar to factory blue)

  • High polished blue (add $75)

Stainless guns:

  • Brushed (similar to factory finish)

  • Beadblasted to a matte finish

  • On guns that came from the factory with a high polish (eg. Vaqueros) we will duplicate factory finish if desired.

Old caliber designations are removed and gun is properly remarked as needed.  Worn alloy ejector housings and rear sight are replaced or refinished as needed at no extra charge.

Please note: Any 5 shot conversion will require the base gun to have the serial number located at least 1/32" below the bottom edge of the frame window. This is to insure the number will not be defaced while opening up the window for the larger diameter cylinder.

.50 Cal. Ruger Old Army:  This is a 5-shot conversion of the Old Army to .50 caliber.  Gun will shoot .490" round balls @ 1250 fps and a 250 gr. .488" dia. bullet @ 1150 fps using Hodgdon's Triple 7 powder.  Standard features include an oversize 5 shot cyl. made to fit your individual gun, 6 3/4" straight taper bull barrel made from a Kreiger blank with pinned blade front sight base, (fixed sight conversions will have a dovetailed front sight), action job, and reliability modifications. Load data furnished. We pioneered this conversion and it is only available from us.  Cylinders are linebored for accuracy. Bullets are available from Mt. Baldy Bullets.   $995 on your gun. Extra .50 cal. cyl. furnished with conversion $500  
For 6 3/4" octagon barrel with integral front sight base and dovetailed blade add $300.
For conversion on a blue gun add $100.
Fixed or adjustable sight guns are suitable for this conversion.
The 6 3/4" barrel is the only length available for this conversion.
Ruger has recently discontinued the Old Army. Conversion is only available on customer supplied guns.

Single Six Accurizing service: I have developed a process by which I can improve the accuracy of the stock Single Six by 30-60%. Charge for this will be on a gun to gun basis as not all will need the same attention. I will have to have your gun inhouse in order to give an estimate for this work. There will be a $50 fee for this inspection service which will be waived if you authorize the work I recommend. Approximate cost will run from $75- $350 for the accurizing.

No. 5 and Bisley gripframes: I can fit both style frames in blue only to any Ruger SA except the OM Single 6. I hardily recommend the Bisley frame for hard kicking guns. If you have used this frame before and found it to be uncomfortable due to the trigger guard rapping the knuckle, I can offer some relief in the form of slightly reshaping the frontstrap. There is a $45 extra charge for this service so please note this when ordering if wanted. Altering frontstrap on Bisley frames already mounted on customer supplied guns is $75. The No.5 frame closely duplicates the original as made for Elmer Keith, but with a few minor improvements to make it more user friendly with stiff loads. It is made by altering the standard NM Bisley frame. If you have large hands and would like it left slightly longer than normal, I can do this. Bluing of the barreled receiver will be required. Vaqueros with colorcased frames will be blued. Both fitting and bluing are included in the cost. Grips are not included in price. Factory Ruger grips to fit the Bisley frame are $40 additional. No.5 frames will require custom grips at a cost of $300 minimum.
OM guns will require a custom made hammer and trigger only available here. Cost: NM Blackhawk, New Vaquero, Anniversary models, large frame older Vaqueros- Bisley frame- $375    No.5 frame $625
Guns that employ a factory key lock mainspring strut will retain this feature on the replacement frame.
OM Blackhawks and Flattops- Bisley frame $535  No.5 frame $785
Deduct $50 from cost when any of these frames are ordered as part of a conversion.

Convert customer supplied Bisley frame to No.5 configuration $250 (grips not included)
The OM Bisley hammer and trigger used for the above conversions are only available on an installed basis.

Flattop conversion to standard OM and NM frames: Some of these I can do and others I cannot. I need to see a pic of side of receiver showing location of pin hole to determine this. Conversion will use the NM flattop sight. Requires refinishing of receiver. $250  A slight weld line may be visible after bluing. Colorcasing of frame will hide the weld completely.
