In order to better serve my growing list of customers, I am making several changes effective 12-1-07.
1. All services for Ruger double action revolvers are being suspended for the time being. I am referring all future inquiries for DA work to Bowen Classic Arms. All DA Rugers currently in the shop will be completed here and returned to the owner.
2. All rifle work will be confined to Marlin lever action guns only. All SA revolver work will be confined to Rugers.
3. I will make custom cylinders for Ruger SA guns only, except the Maximum and Bearcat. All cylinders will be of the recessed case head design unless the customer specifies differently.
4. S&W conversions and the Jeff Quinn Special both utilize rebored barrels. Bear in mind that I send the barrels out for rebore and I have no control over the amount of time it takes to get it back. Faster delivery times are usually on conversions with new barrels.
5. I strongly recommend the installation of the Belt Mtn. #5 base pin on all conversions. I use a special order pin with a very good retaining screw that absolutely stops base pin jump.
6. I can usually only find the time to make OM Ruger hammers a couple of times a year. I take orders for these on a continuing basis and make enough to cover all orders with a few left over each time. No deposit is required to order. Just email me your contact info and what you want and I'll add you to the list.
7. I answer emails on a daily basis. Sometimes these go undelivered or get returned to me. If you don't hear from me within a day or so, please try again or call.
8. All S&W work will be limited to N-frame caliber conversions only.
9. I am only accepting orders with a $250 minimum per gun.
10. I get several request for refinishing and repair work. I am not a refinishing or repair shop. I only blue and repair the guns I do custom work on.
11. Gripframe installation is not available as a separate service.
12. I do not work on guns altered by other custom makers.
13. I will no longer remove warning labels from barrels unless they are shortened and the lettering is cut thru.
14. What's on the horizon? Custom hammers for Marlin leverguns, octagon to round barrels for Marlins, more package guns, leather covered recoil pads. Look for these in 2008.
15. In testing the new .348 DC cartridge, I found it to be the most consistent cartridge I have ever fired. Velocity deviations were very low with all loads I tried. Accuracy was phenomenal for a lever gun. All loads extracted easily and case expansion was minimal. Recoil is surprisingly mild for the bullet weight and velocity. It's a lot easier on the shoulder than a .444 or heavy loaded .45/70. Overall the cartridge performance exceeded my expectations and I believe it to be the best all around cartridge for the Marlin to date.
16. In an effort to offer only the best possible guns, I have gone thru several of my conversion packages and upgraded them. If you would like work currently in the shop upgraded to new specs, I will do so for a nominal charge. All work currently in the shop will be completed at old specs and pricing plus 3% extra for credit cards when applicable. New pricing and specs will apply to all guns received after 12-1-07.
17. Guns received in filthy condition will incur a $25 fee for cleaning before work can start. It doesn't have to be spotless, but please do as good a job as possible on the barrel, cyl., and inside the frame window.
18. I get several complaints about the shape of the Bisley trigger causing trigger bite. I can straighten it slightly which helps the problem along with a rounding of the trigger tip. Note this when ordering and I will fix at no charge.
19. I will be adding lots more pictures to the site as they become available. I encourage anyone taking game with one of my guns or just have a good photo of the gun I sent them, to submit it via email and I will put it on the site. Any comments on the new site would be appreciated also. I will be posting a complete series of pictures in the near future showing all the steps in making an OM Ruger hammer.
20. Grips: Ever since Lett Grips when out of business, it has been increasingly hard to find aftermarket grips that are useable. I will not be furnishing or fitting anymore aftermarket grips. I will continue to fit customer supplied grips (no plastic) for a nominal fee. I will be glad to send your frame out to whoever you want for custom grips. I use a select few gripmakers and will be glad to arrange grips through them if you want. In the process of changing from alloy to steel gripframes, etc., it may be necessary to do some work on the factory grips to get them to fit. Any major alterations needed will incur an added fee. This usually runs from $20-$65 depending on the time needed for the work.
21. I have tried to list most of the work I do on the website. Pics may be shown of somethings I have not listed and may be available on a special order basis. Feel free to contact me about these.
22. Even though I am a licensed firearms mfg., I do not sell guns except for the ones I work on. I do take a few in on trade for work occasionally. Feel free to contact me if you have something to trade, preferably a Ruger SA, NM or OM, or Marlin levergun. In order to keep shop traffic to a minimum, I do not do individual firearms transfers. Please make arrangements thru your local dealer for this if I furnish the base gun. I will need a signed copy of his FFL via email or USPS before I can ship. The only exception to this is the Ruger Old Army. Most states allow the sale of these without paperwork and delivery direct to customer. Please check your local firearms laws to be sure. I can always ship these thru a dealer should it be necessary when I furnish the base gun. It is the customer's responsibility to make sure any local laws are complied with when getting a custom gun built on their gun or purchasing as a whole from me. 23. For years I have made all my own front sights. I do not use those available elsewhere. All my designs have been proven in the field over many years of service. You can't get a better sight than my pinned blade designs and you never have to worry about a blade popping out. As a bonus, if the blade were damaged, it can be replaced without having to reblue the barrel. Most sights using a screw to retain the blade will loosen under recoil unless the screw has been loctited in place. I use a patched screw with a retaining compound on it to keep this from happening. After changing blades a few times, the screw will require replacement as the patch will break down. I will supply extra screws when needed in the event this happens. My pick of the bunch is the pinned blade design for simplicity and ruggedness.
24. In the course of working on your gun, any small parts that are defective or worn will be replaced or repaired. Most of the time this will be done for the cost of the parts only. Sometimes a part will require extra time for fitting and a small additional charge will be incurred. Should any major work be needed such as barrel or cylinder replacement, I will contact you beforehand and discuss the options. It is my policy that every gun leaving the shop be in topnotch condition and fully functional.
25. It has recently come to my attention that Ruger has discontinued the Old Army. I have procurred enough guns to fill all outstanding orders, but will no longer offer these conversions on a gun that I furnish. These can usually be found on one of the auction sites if you need one.
